Kwara Speaker pledges commitment to state tourism devt

The Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Dr Ali Ahmad has pledged the House preparedness towards supporting the state government drive to improve the state economy through culture and tourism.

The move, Ahmad stressed became imperative as it would go a long way in enhancing the sector and boost Kwara Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to further enable government meet the yearnings of the citizenry.

A statement issued by the speaker's Media Aide, Shuaib Abdulkadir said he made the pledge in his remarks during an advocacy visit to his office by the Special Assistant to the governor on Culture and Tourism, Mr Femi Adebayo on Wednesday.

The speaker said without doubt, tourism is one of the key areas that would fetch the state government huge resources and aid development especially in the face of economy hardship being experienced in the country.

Therefore, Ahmad commended Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed for his foresight and commitment to rejuvenate the hitherto moribund sector for the benefits of Kwarans.

He also lauded the recent appointment of Mr Femi Adebayo by the governor, noting that his contributions in the entertainment industry over the years and experience would assist in improving the state tourism.

Earlier, the Special Assistant to the governor on Culture and Tourism, Mr Femi Adebayo had noted that his visit to the Speaker was to solicit the lawmakers' support for the arduous task ahead.

Adebayo said various programmes have been highlighted for government nod and implementation so as to make Kwara a hub of tourism in the country.

He disclosed that due to Governor Ahmed's commitment to change the sector's fortune, construction of the road leading to Owu Falls, one of the major tourist sites in the state have been highlighted in the 2016 budget.
