We'll ensure 80 per cent 2016 budget performance, says Kwara Speaker

The Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Dr Ali Ahmad has on Tuesday said that the legislature is poised to ensure that the 2016 budget appropriation is considered and passed without any delay. 
Though, Ahmad added that the legislators would not just rush to pass the budget as every detail in the budget proposal would be thoroughly scrutinised to enable optimal performance.  
Similarly, the Speaker stated that the assembly would ensure that the 2016 appropriation recorded 70 to 80 per cent success and as well be realistic. 
He lamented that in previous years, budget implementation in the state is rated poor, such situation Ahmad stressed that ?the 8th Assembly is bent to improved for betterment of the state.  
While declaring open the budget defence of the Ministries of Finance, Planning, Works, Bureau of Statistics and Fiscal  Responsibility Commission, Ahmad noted that in view of the present situation, the state must also be conservative about its earnings. 

The Speaker maintained that it is in the best interest of the state not to have overbloated budget which in six months times would require the Executive to be forced to reduce,saying that budget as close to reality as possible would be approved by the House of Assembly. 

"When success rate for budget performance is high, especially with regards to capital expenditure, the irrefutable presumption is that good governance has been delivered", he stressed.

He urged the ministries, departments and parastatals to come up with various plans, suggestions and ideas which could be included in order to ?have a perfect budget for the Kwara State in 2016.

Ahmad pledged that the House is committed to support ?and cooperate with the Executive in its desire to improve Kwarans well-being.
