The Deputy Speaker, Elder Mathew Okedare, gave these indications in Ilorin, while addressing members of the state chapter, of the Nigerian Union of Teachers ( NUT), who were on a peaceful rally, to the House.

Elder Okedare, who described education as the bedrock of any sustainable development, said the Speaker of the House, Dr. Ali Ahmad, was spear heading efforts at proffering enduring solutions to the lingering problem in the ongoing Constitutional amendment, and assured that the House would not spear any efforts at addressing issues impeding prompt payment of teachers salaries, to further enhance their performance.

In his remark, the House Leader, Hon. Hassan Oyeleke, disclosed that the House was spear heading efforts at ensuring that the current clamour for autonomy for Local Government Councils, in the ongoing Constitutional amendment, does not in any way affect prompt payment of teachers salaries, in the country.

Hon Oyeleke, while describing the Parliament, as the conscience of the people, said the House would continue to be responsive to the yearnings of teachers , whom he described as moulders of future leaders of the Country.

Earlier, the Chairman, of the NUT in the State, Comrade, Musa Abubakar, had said that the current clamour for Local Government autonomy,in the ongoing constitutional amendment, would impede smooth payment of teachers salaries and called on the legislature, to wade in.

Comrade Abubakar, who said primary school teachers had gone through agony under Local Government Councils, in the past, urged state governments in the Country, to respect Supreme Court judgement of 2002, which placed primary Education under the purview of state governments

He described the state House of Assembly, as people's Parliament and assured that the NUT would continue to partner with the legislature, in the task of raising the bar of good governance in the State.
