Kwara Speaker makes case for youths impactful empowerment

The Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Dr. Ali Ahmad has charged Political Office holders to shun penchant for the empowerment of their constituents with motorcycles and other similar tools.

Rather, he said, they should assist their constituents through enrolment in International Aviation College ,Ilorin.

Dr Ahmad said such measures would assist in tackling poverty and pervasive hunger permanently.

The Speaker made the observation in Ilorin, during debate on the general principles of Ilorin International Aviation College Bill 2017 before the House, pointing out that doing such would make the constituents to be self sustaining and independent.

He enjoined public office holders, affluent individuals and corporate organisations to put a stop to the habitual distribution of empowerment items, noting that the best way to empower constituents is to train them.

Leading others in debate on the Bill, the House Leader, Hon. Hassan Oyeleke, said the bill before the House was long over due, as the legal frame work according to him would entrench the institution and fast track its attainment world class status.

Similarly, the State Road Traffic Management Authority Bill, passed through second reading and the Speaker directed the Clerk to the House Alh Ahmed Katsina Mohammed to read the two bills for the second time.

The Speaker who referred the two Bills to the House committee on Energy, Works and Transport, directed that all-inclusive public hearings be conducted on the two bills, to have workable and enduring laws, to achieve the intended purposes.
