...as Speaker donates cash, motorcycles

The Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ali Ahmad has emphasised the need for governments and  individuals in the society to come to assist the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) in it's activities.

This, Ahmad noted would greatly assist in reducing crimes and criminality to the barest minimum and as well strengthen the nation's security.

He made the call while addressing members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Ilorin South/East Local Government Areas who paid a courtesy call to the speaker's office on Wednesday.

The speaker, who donated cash and two motorcycles for improved operation of the group in the areas covered , stressed that their importance to ensuring society free of crimes could not be over-emphasised.

The lawmaker reiterated that security of lives and property is tantamount to development, describing the vigilante as the closest to the grassroots among all security organisations in Nigeria.

Ahmad further called on other security outfits in the country to partner and sustain the existing cordial relationship with the group with a view to rid Nigeria of crimes.

The speaker, however pledged that the House of Assembly would not hesitate to collaborate with the group and offer support where necessary to enhance their performance.

Earlier in his address, the Ilorin East VGN Commandant, Mr. Muhammed Jamiu had sought for the Speaker's and Assembly's support in order to function better in the society.

While highlighting some of the challenges facing the VGN, Jamiu said that as tedious as their job was, their members were always prepared for the task but  hindered in several ways.

The Commandant lamented that their members  face serious  mobility problem which makes it difficult for them to act fast to distress calls from the affected people or communities.
