Kwara Assembly advocates prioritization of teachers' salary

The Kwara State Government has been urged to ensure prompt payment of teachers' salary at all levels in the state to further enhance the well-being of teachers in the state.

Th?is is part of resolutions of the State House of Assembly following a Matter of General Importance raised by a member representing Ilorin North-West Constituency Hon. Abdulrafiu Abdulrahman. Reading the resolutions of the House, the Deputy Speaker Elder Matthew Okedare said teachers had played significant role in the Socio-economic? and political emancipation of the state. The Deputy Speaker who described the current predicament of teachers as unfortunate explained that the prompt payments of their salaries would go a long way at enhancing their performance.

Hon. AbdulRahman had while raising the matter enumerated the significance of the teachers and noted with displeasure that the current predicament bedevilling teachers would have adverse effects on the children, if not urgently addressed.

Other members who spoke on the issue called on all tiers of government to see payment of teachers' salary as a capital project that should be adequately funded to enhance the well-being of the younger generation.

The House equally received petitions in respect of land encroachment in Irewolede Housing Estate in Ilorin, boundary dispute between Oke-Iya Ipo and Igbaja, collapsed bridge linking Odofin-Odo Ashe and directed relevant committees of the House to wade in and report to the House in two weeks
