Kwara Assembly Urges KWSG to Reconstruct Collapsed Alagbado Bridge in Ilorin

The Kwara State House of Assembly has called on the State Government to award the contract for the reconstruction of Alagbado bridge in Ilorin, to alleviate hardship being faced by road users in the Metropolis.

This is part of the resolutions of the House, following the consideration of the report of the House Committee on Energy, Works and Transport on an on - the -spot
assessment of some collapsed Bridges, Culverts and Drainages within Ilorin Metropolis.

The Deputy Speaker, Elder Mathew Okedare, who presided over the Tuesday's sitting, while reading the resolutions of the House, said the need became expedient to redress the hardship confronting road users and fast track vehicular movement to pave way for accelerated socio- economic development.

The Legislature equally enjoined the state government to liaise with members of the National Assembly from the state, to fast track the release of funds by the Ecology Office in the Presidency, for proper channelization of gully erosion and environmental hazards along Salau Giwa Street off Kilanko road, Offa Garage Area in Ilorin Metropolis.

The House also called on the State Road Maintainance Agency to remove slabs covering the drainage at Kongbari junction, Adangba area, Ilorin and lay asphalt on the poor portion of the road, to facilitate vehicular movement in the area.

The Parliament also urged the state government to ensure timely completion of Coca Cola road bridge before the next raining season, to reduce the sufferings of motorists plying the road.

It equally directed the State Ministry of Environment and Forestry to evacuate the refuse in the drainage at Kongbari junction, Adangba Ilorin, to ensure free flow of erosion, while residents of the area were enjoined to imbibe hygienic culture to forestall outbreak of epidemic disease in the area.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon Matthew Olaitan Babaoye, had while presenting the report, observed, among other things, that the collapsed box culvert at Alagbado road was swept off, thereby cutting off the road, while the on going construction of coca Cola bridge was not abandoned by the contractor,but attributed slow pace of work on the project to persistent rain fall.

It would be recalled that a member representing Ilorin North West Constituency, Hon Abdul Rafiu Abdul Rahman, had on Tuesday 31st October under Matter of General Public Importance, raised alarm over the poor condition of culvert at Kongbari junction, Adangba Ilorin and urged the House to wade in, with a view to proffering enduring solutions to the problem.
