KWHA urges State Government to make provision for installation of Transformers in 2017 Budget to increase access to electricity

The Kwara State Government has been urged to make provision in the 2017 budget for installation of about 105 transformers distributed to communities in the state,to ensure that more communities in the State enjoy electricity.

This is part of resolutions by the House following a Matter of General Public lmportance raised by a member representing Kaiama/Wajibe/ Kamanji Constituency Hon.Ahmed Ibn Mohammed on vandalization of some transformers procured by the state government in 2014 due to non- installation of the transformers .

The Deputy Speaker Elder Matthew Okedare who presided over today's sitting said the state government should make it as a matter of priority to include installation of the transformers in 2017 budget before procuring another set to ensure that more communities have access to electricity .

Others members who spoke on the Matter of General Public lmportance praised the State Government for the intervention, but insisted that the state Government should henceforth consider installation along with procurement to ensure that the genuiue purpose of expending the state's scarce resources on the project was realized.

Hon. Ibn Mohammed had while raising the matter noted that most of the 105 transformers distributed to some communities across the state have been vandalized due to non-energising of the transformers and urged the state government to direct state Ministry of Energy to compile the list of the transformers with a view to connecting them to electricity.

The House equally urged the state government to direct relevant agency to give priority to the reconstruction of Egbere-Lanwa bridge in Moro Local Government Area to reduce the hardship confronting the people of Lanwa Districts in transporting their agricultural produce to urban centre.

The House made the resolution due to a Matter of General Public lmportance raised by a member representing Malete /Oloru/Ipaye Constituency Hon.Babatunde Adebayo Muhammed .

The House equally today received a petition on the need to compel Kwara State University to put to use forest earlier allocated to Tate and Lyle which according to the petitioner was endangering the lives of the people.

The Deputy Speaker later referred the petition to the House Committee on Health and Environment and directed the committee toreport to the House in two weeks time .
