The Kwara State Government has been urged to give approval for the development of Offa Township Stadium and make provision for it in the 2017 budget.
This is Contained in the resolution of the State House of Assembly following a Matter of General Public importance raised by the House Leader Hon. Hassan Oyeleke.
Reading the resolution of the House, the Deputy Speaker Elder Matthew Okedare, who presided over sitting said the approval and inclusion of the stadium in the next year's budget would go a long way to enhance sports development in the state.
Hon. Oyeleke had while raising the Matter of General Public Importance said Offa stadium constructed in the 90s by Offa Local Government Council would serve as alternative stadium to Ilorin State Stadium Complex, if developed to conventional standard.
The House leader who is representing Essa/shawo/igboodun Constituency of Offa Local Government enumerated the significance of sports in addressing societal ills and psychological problem insisted that Offa stadium had not received the state government's attention since its inception.
He equally, called on the state government to extend its hands of benevolence to Lafiagi Township Stadium to ensure that hiding talents at the grass root were properly harnessed for sports development in the country.
A member representing Ojomu/Balogun Constituency Hon.Saheed Popoola who had served as the Chairman of Offa Local Government Council and Commissioner for Sport and Youth Development in the State, highlighted efforts made in the past to develop the stadium and called on Offa Local Government Council to liaise with the state Ministry of Sports and Youth Development in fast tracking the development of the stadium.
Other members who spoke on the matter emphasized the need for all Local Government Councils in the state to construct mini stadium in their respective Local Government Areas with a view to ensuring accelerated Sports development at the grass root.
