Crimes: Kwara Speaker expresses House commitment to assist police

In an attempt to rid the state of crimes and criminalities, the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ali Ahmad has pledged the House commitment to the state Police Command to achieve success in that regard.

Ahmad made the pledge while leading Principal Officers of the House on a courtesy visit to the new Commissioner of Police, Mr Lawan Ado in his office on Thursday.

The speaker enjoined the new police boss to to put mechanism in place to stamp out cultism in the state, regretting that cultists' activities' especially in the state capital, has become a menace that must be nipped in the bud.

Ahmed who noted that the recently passed state anti cultism Law specify adequate punishments and jail terms for any cultist or accomplice apprehended, added that the law was tailored towards enhancing the law enforcement officers' duties.

The Speaker expressed confidence in the new police commissioner, saying that having worked in crime ladden areas and armed with experience, Kwarans believed the commissioner would succeed in the state as well.

Ahmad called on other stakeholders to support the police with equipment and other logistics with a view to make the society free of criminalities.

Also speaking, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Lawan Ado who expressed delight with the visit of House said such gesture would further strengthen and encourage the officers to perform optimally.

Ado confirmed that cultism has been one of the Command's major challenges, promising that he would put his expertise in Community Policing in place to ensure they achieve success and rid Kwara of ill activities.

He said that the police force and other law enforcement agencies enjoyed good working relationship, stating that they would work assiduously to secure the state's glory of being the most harmonious in the country.
