Budget: Kwara Speaker makes case for more citizenship participation

The Speaker, Kwara state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Engr. Yakubu Danladi Salihu has explained that the ongoing citizens participation in Kwara state budgetary process is to enhance inclusive governance and people oriented development across the sixteen (16) local government of the State.

Danladi-Salihu made this disclosure while delivering a keynote address at the Kwara North Town Hall Meeting for Citizens participation in the 2021 Kwara state government budget, held at Moro local government headquarters Bode Saadu.

The town hall meeting coordinated by the Kwara state Ministry of Finance and Planning, was graced by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kwara state - Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.

The legislator said "As a government of the people, we have come to listen to your plights and ensure the budget reflects the needs of our people. As representatives, we are not unaware of the numerous developmental challenges of Kwara North, but we need to hear directly from various stakeholders for us to set our priorities right."

While urging all stakeholders to feel free in airing their opinions to assist the government in its readiness to address the enormous developmental challenges facing the District, Danladi- Salihu particularly enjoined young people and women to come forth with ideas capable of increasing sustainable youth and women employment and empowerment rate in the State.

He noted that the 2020 budget performance so far is encouraging and has, to a very large extent, impacted positively on socioeconomic development of the State and craved for more support from the people to do more.

In his remarks, Chairman House Committee on Finance, Hon. Ambali Olatunji Ibrahim said the Town hall meeting will afford his committee the opportunity to have a seamless budget consideration and passage exercise, noting that every stage of the budget process, its implementation, monitoring and evaluation will be open to all.

Ambali added that "The 9th Kwara state House of Assembly is open to suggestions and contributions on moving Kwara state forward, assuring that funds would be appropriated to programs and projects that would impact positively on the citizenry.

The Town hall meeting has representatives of market men and women, farmers, artisans, traditional rulers, women, youths, physically challenged, religious institutions, Non governmental organization from Kwara North Senatorial District among others, who made significant contributions on areas of interest they would.like the 2020 budget to address.

Present at the Town hall meeting are members of the House of Assembly from Kwara North Senatorial District, House Leader - Hon. Abubakar Mogaji Olawoyin, Commissioner for Works and Transport - Rotimi Iliasu and Commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs - Arch. Mohammed Saifudeen.
