Kwara Assembly approves procurement of fertilizer for farmers
The Kwara State House of Assembly has given the state government the nod to procure 20,000 metric tonnes of NPK fertilizer for distribution to peasant farmers in the state.
The House unanimously gave the approval at its Wednesday's sitting, during consideration of the governor's request for the approval of the legislature, to procure the fertilizer, under the Federal Government Special Fertilizer Intervention Programme.
The Speaker, Dr. Ali Ahmad while reading the resolution of the House said, members were unanimous granting the approval, as the request;according to him had been captured in the 2017 budget, and directed its committee on Agriculture and Water Resources, to properly brief the House next week on the modalities for distribution and modus operandi of identifying genuine farmers.
It would be recalled that the Speaker had on Tuesday read the Governor's message; requesting for the House's approval to procure 20,000 metric tonnes of NPK fertilizer, for peasant farmers, at a cost of N2bn,as each bag would cost N5,000.
Also, a private-member bill tagged Ilorin Township (Prohibition against the Manufacture, Sale and Consumption of Liquor in certain areas) Bill, 2017, bills to amend the Revenue Administration Law No. 6 of 2015 (as amended) and a bill to amend the Revenue Court Law passed through First Reading at the floor of the House.
