Kwara Assembly approved Offa Local Government Council extension

Following the request of the Kwara State Governor seeking the extension of the tenure of Offa Local Government Council, the State House of Assembly has extended the tenure of the affected council for another two months .

The Speaker Dr. Ali Ahmad while reading the resolution of the House after an executive session that followed the appearance of the State Attorney General Barrister kamaldeen Ajibade and the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development Alhaji Haruna Mohammed.

Dr Ahmad said the extension was in accordance with the section 18 sub section 3 of the State Local Government Law, the tenure of the council will now end on the 10th November, 2016 along with the remaining 15 Local Government Councils in the state and the resolution was unanimously supported by all members.

The Attorney General of the State and the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development Alhaji Haruna Mohammed had while appearing before the legislators in Tuesday said the request for the tenure elongation became imperative in view of the current financial predicament of the state which according to them made preparation for the poll difficult.

The Governor had in his letter to the Speaker Dr. Ali Ahmad dated 31-08-2016 said the tenure of Offa Local Government Council ended last Friday 2nd September, 2016 and said the request was necessitated by the need not to create a vacuum in the administration of the local government council.

The House also at it sitting paid glowing tribute to the retiring Clerk to the House Mr Simon Okedare who is voluntarily retiring next month after attaining 35 years of meritorious service to his fatherland, following a motion raised by the House Leader Hon. Hassan Oyeleke.

Hon. Oyeleke described the retiring Clerk as highly resourceful, experienced, industrious and dependable technocrat who had helped significantly to enhance the legislative performance of members.

Responding the Speaker Dr. Ali Ahmad who said the retiring Clerk had served his fatherland diligently and meritoriously disclosed that the House would hold a special valedictory session in his honour at a later date as a mark of respect for him.

Mr Okedare who had served the state in various capacities is expected to bow out of service in October this year after attaining mandatory 35 years in service.
